About Survivor-Reference

What happens when a PR guy with a spreadsheet problem discovers the survivoR dataset.

🔥What Is This?

Survivor-Reference is what happens when baseball cards meet the island. Every vote. Every challenge. Every receipt. 751 players across 50 seasons of the US version of Survivor, measured across 17 original statistics, 4 achievement badges, and 2 career composite scores.

We built Torch Score because the game needed a WAR equivalent — one number that captures a player's full career: strategic dominance, challenge performance, and raw survival, weighted by how deep they went. We built Jeff's Index because the show is as much about narrative as it is about gameplay, and some players simply are the show.

This is not a wiki. This is not a recap site. This is a stat sheet. If you've ever argued about whether Parvati or Sandra had the better career, or whether Tony's S40 game was actually better than his S28 game, now there are numbers.

🧠Origin Story

This site was built by Chris the PR Guy, a Survivor superfan who should have been doing literally anything else with his time but instead spent the entirety of March 2026 building a statistical framework for a reality TV show. No regrets.

It started the way most crazy ideas start: an innocent question at 2 a.m. "What if Survivor had a stat site like Baseball-Reference?" That question led to a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet led to an engine. The engine led to this site.

The data comes from the incredible survivoR open-source dataset, a labor of love maintained by Daniel Oehm and his team who care deeply about documenting every tribal council, challenge result, and confessional count across 25 years of the show. Without their work, none of this exists. We simply built the stats on top of their data.

📊Methodology (The Nerdy Bit)

Every stat has a locked definition, a documented formula, edge case handling, and validation against known benchmark players. Tony Vlachos doesn't get a #1 Torch Score because we like him (though we do). He gets it because the math says so.

Stats are grouped into three pillars — Outwit (5 stats), Outplay (5 stats), and Outlast (5 stats) plus two composites. Career aggregation uses placement-weighted averages so a winning season counts more than an early boot. Incomplete seasons are included because baseball doesn't wait until after the World Series to update its stat sheet. Survivor deserves the same treatment.

The full stat definitions document is versioned, currently at v1.9. Bonus values for Torch Score and Jeff's Index are in beta and subject to tuning. We are aware that some of you will disagree with the weights. That's what tribal council is for.

🙏Credits & Thank Yous

This site wouldn't exist without the following people and communities. The tribe has spoken, and the tribe says thank you.

The open-source dataset that powers everything. Every vote, every challenge, every confessional — meticulously collected and maintained. We are forever in your debt.
🎙️Rob Has a Podcast (RHAP)
Rob Cesternino built the greatest Survivor community on the planet. RHAP didn't just cover the show; it made thinking deeply about Survivor a legitimate pursuit. This site exists because of that culture.
👥The RHAP Community
The superfans, the stock watchers, the draft leagues, the Discord debaters. You made it normal to argue about voting patterns at 1 a.m. We see you. We are you.
🌴Jeff Probst
25 years. 50 seasons. Still finding new ways to make people cry on a beach. Jeff's Index exists because some players simply become the show, and nobody understands that better than the man who built it.
🎬The Crew
The hundreds of producers, camera operators, editors, challenge designers, dream teamers, medical staff, and production crew who've made Survivor happen since 2000. The players get the glory. You make the magic.
751 Castaways
Every single person who's ever played Survivor US, from Richard Hatch stepping off the boat in Borneo to whoever's getting their torch snuffed tomorrow. You gave us the data. We just counted it.
🔥The Pod Has Spoken
For pure entertainment value and for keeping the Survivor conversation alive and unhinged in all the right ways. You know who you are.
🦆Our Kid
A young superfan who hasn't watched all seasons yet, but most of them. (18 by our latest count.) His favorite player is Rizo, he rocks a red S49 buff, and his Jeff Probst Halloween costume was the top post on r/Survivor on Halloween 2025. Rewatching the classics together is one of the best parts of this whole thing.
